On the book of Persepolis, Marjane's father plans to have a vacation in Italy and Spain for three weeks. This vacation is made in consideration of the worsening political condition in Iran from one day to the other, so Marjane's father believes that they need some break time to settle their fatique down while doing so is still possible. They are having so much fun, and the vacation is just so wonderful for Marjane and her family. However, it is sad though given the fact that as soon as they get back from their vacation, they are told that Iran is having war with Iraq. And they have to come back facing the bitter reality about their country, Iran (Satrapi 77-79).
I relate Marjane's experience to my own personal experience. This Christmas holiday, I am planning to go to Indonesia, and it makes me overwhelmingly excited during this quarter at De Anza College. Unlike Marjane, I am pretty lucky because I do not have to worry about the political condition in Indonesia as Marjane does about her country, Iran. However, I should be aware of the fact that things might have changed a lot in Indonesia since I have never gone back for two years. Admittedly, I agree with Marjane's father idea saying that people should take vacation in order to give themselves break from their stressing regular activities. As Marjane states, they are enjoying the vacation, and they seem to be more relax and happier after they take vacation. Unfortunately, their vacation seems to be futile as soon as they come back home given the fact that the political situation is worse than it was. Therefore, I give thanks to God because I life in the twenty-first century, especially in The United States in which I have such a steady government and healthy political condition.
